PowerPoint Presentations Saved as PDFs: How to Prepare Them for CAT
At OCR Craft, we specialize in providing DTP services. Usually, our clients send us their non-editable PDF files of varying quality and legibility and request us to create matching MS Word versions so they can use them with their CAT tools, leveraging their extensive TMs and reducing project costs.
Unsurprisingly, the most common service we offer is PDF-to-DOC conversion, which involves preparing non-editable or scanned PDF files for CAT (or MT) translation by converting them to *.docx and recreating the format to match the original documents exactly.
Our clients trust that we can reproduce any document layout in Word exactly as it appears in the original document provided. However, there are times when the original layout is so complex that a text editor alone may not be enough for such a task.
In the past, we used to follow this workflow, which had two stages:
- Using an OCR program to prepare Word documents for the client to process using their CAT tool.
- Using InDesign to provide DTP services (or another similar program).
The final delivery consisted of the translated document saved as a PDF file, with the layout matching the source. The quality of the delivered document was OK, even though it was the only copy the client had. If clients needed to print more copies, they had to rely on the one copy they had on hand.
Therefore, the next logical step is to diversify our services and provide our clients with electronic copies of their projects, including in the .doc, .docx, .ppt, and .pptx formats.
Well, guess what? We are now offering a new service: PDF-to-PPT conversion. This way, you will not only be able to translate files using your favorite CAT tool, but also maintain the layout of the original document.
The service is best for:
- Any documents originally created in PowerPoint and later converted to PDF by the client.
- Any documents with intricate design and graphics (diagrams, watermarks, flowcharts, text blocks, etc.).
The service is not for:
- Drawings, electrical wiring diagrams, and other documents created in AutoCAD or similar programs.
- Any documents intended for printing.
We are always happy to help with any PDF conversion and DTP projects by providing clear, well-organized, and consistent source files so you and your clients can fully utilize your TM resources and save money in the long run.
